As a fan of both classic and modern, I trade between the two. However, I think there are certain times when everyone has their place, and I have to say that I decided today that eCards suck at Christmas!
Here are 7 reasons why:
- They are lazy [They say… “I was in a hurry, and forgot to get you a real card.”]
- Are cheap [They say… “You’re not worth a couple of dollars for a card and a stamp.”]
- They are blocked by spam filters. [Oh joy!]
- They are impersonal. [Nothing says “Your special” like a handwritten eCard. It just warms the heart doesn’t it?]
- They require the reader to work for their “special gift.” ‘Dear Bob, simply visit our online eCard store to download your eCard [number 898323232423] using access code TRX46546′”. Wow, just thinking about logging into yet another online retailer to be bombarded with promotional messages while trying to find my “special gift” feels so festive!
- They are temporary. And who wants to print their e-card on the office laser printer? Whoever said ‘Toner Black’ is the new green and red was seriously disturbed! [My wife likes to put our Christmas cards on display to show friends how popular we are 😉 Just try that with an eCard!]
- And finally… Email is ‘quick’ and ‘convenient’ – Christmas cards shouldn’t be… Take a moment to show someone you really care.
And if the mail has been lost, just pick up the phone and give them a call. This time of year you need to get online… AND DON’T YOU DARE LEAVE VOICEMAIL!
Merry Christmas… and YES… I sent real cards this year.
