There is nothing more frustrating than being in the middle of your favorite game when your Xbox console suddenly freezes and you are presented with that nasty screen of red rings on your Xbox 360 or known as the “Red Ring of Death.” This article will help you understand why this problem occurs and show you ways to solve the problem without breaking the bank.

After completing a lot of research, I finally found out from an expert why red rings on Xbox appear after prolonged gameplay on console. It seems like it’s all due to a design flaw that occurred when Microsoft rushed to launch the console.

The design flaw that causes this flaw comes from where Microsoft wanted to put the DVD drive in the console. The Xbox console was originally supposed to have larger heat sinks that are used to expel heat from the motherboard and its components, but the DVD drive was too big to fit around these. So what did Microsoft do? Yes, you guessed it, they downsized the heat sinks to fit everything. They also choose a strange way to connect the heat sinks to the processors, which means that when the console has been played for a longer period of time, the system cannot expel enough heat and begins to overheat, which in turn it will display the dreaded flashing red lights or the “Red Ring of Death”.

How not to fix yourself Xbox

In an effort to try and get their Xbox consoles working again, some people have even resorted to putting their console inside a towel, wrapping it around, and turning it on. This is known as the “towel trick” and is supposed to work by overheating the console. It is recommended not to try this one as it does not work.

One thing you should always check first is the AV cable on your console, it is always worth unplugging the cable and just quick cleaning to make sure the connection is good. While not really recommended, you may still have the option of sending your Xbox console to Microsoft for repair if it is still under warranty, but only a refurbished system will be returned to you.
