Does this scenario sound familiar to you?

You are preparing for an important presentation. You’ve got your PowerPoint ready, you’ve got your handouts ready, you’ve got your important points lined up, in short, you’re ready to ‘hit’ them but you think:

“What am I going to wear that conveys my power, strength and experience?” You ask this question because you KNOW it is important. What you wear and how you look are important to your success. You don’t have to like this fact, but you have to work with it.

So what will you wear? Here are some tips that will help you win with your presentation.

  1. Wearing solid colors is better than patterns. Solids are the most professional and sophisticated. Big letters can be distracting.
  2. High color contrast is more interesting than monochrome. Make sure to wear flattering colors.
  3. Wear polished, quality shoes. People love to look at them.
  4. Have a flattering hairstyle that doesn’t need to constantly fidget to stay in place. WITHOUT Hair-Acting™
  5. Ladies, wear the proper makeup. The lighting (or lack thereof) can be harsh and unflattering on bare skin. Men, a little powder will help with glowing skin.
  6. Choose well-made clothes instead of cheaper ones. You want to be perceived as the professional and successful expert that you are.
  7. Don’t wear clothing that is too tight, too low-cut, or doesn’t fit well, thinking that no one will notice.
  8. No large dangling earrings or clinking, crackling or exploding jewelry. You don’t want the audience to notice something outrageous you’re wearing and not you and your message.
  9. Your wardrobe should match the mood of the presentation you’re trying to create. Formal business presentation wears neutral and conservative attire, lively monthly professional group adds some color
  10. Check your appearance from EVERY angle
  11. Wrinkled clothes a BIG no-no
  12. Don’t think that stain on your tie or skirt won’t show.
  13. Don’t forget to take care of your hands. They are often a focal point in your presentations.
  14. Always wear a big smile! your best complement
