Newcomers to web hosting often think to themselves:

Customer service! – Sounds like a good thing to have..

If something goes wrong (which it probably won’t), it would be great to have good customer service.

What? You want me to pay an extra dollar a month for customer service?! No, thanks!

What people don’t know is that good customer service is a must in the world of web hosting! While creating a site, changing the specifications on your server, or doing anything else on your web hosting account, it is quite possible that you will face problems.

For example, a couple of days ago I uploaded an .htaccess file to my web hosting server, and to my surprise, it uploaded as gibberish! The name of the file on the server was something like /////////htacces/////////, so obviously the next thing I tried to do was delete the file.

I got a message that the file was deleted, but saw that it was still there. I tried deleting it over and over again but nothing happened! So I decided to try to outsmart my web server… Guess what I did… That’s right, I tried to change the file name! Obviously the name I wrote was something like dasdsafda…

I thought I could delete the file after renaming it, but guess what… the file was now showing as dasdsafda.htaccess//////// and I still couldn’t delete it! I then tried various tricks including trying to move the file (didn’t work), trying to log into the server via a different ftp program (didn’t work either)….

Only one thing worked! I logged into the live chat provided by my web host and within 15 minutes the problem was resolved!

My web server administrators easily removed the file.

That’s how important customer service is. You won’t need good customer service just for the big problems, you’ll need them for the little ones too.
