The short message service or SMS was introduced more than two decades ago. However, in the initial phase, only computers could send SMS. Over a period of time, experts discovered a way for mobile devices to send text messages, and thus SMS started the new age communication tool. It was a blessing to be able to write your message and send it to the person concerned in a matter of minutes. In fact, SMS as you know it today is responsible for familiarizing us with the basics of mobile chat on the various platforms that we are currently using.

For those of you who find it hard to believe, this is how SMS changed the way we communicate

More space for small talk

SMS started in an era when a phone call was expensive. But, as time went by, SMS became one of the cheapest ways to communicate and everyone found it really interesting to do smaller chat rooms about messages. Suddenly I was more connected and there was no need to spend money on a call either. The trend continues even today and we have our own chat groups on different platforms where we stay more connected with our friends and family due to such a small talk.

Better written communication

Believe it or not, SMS or text messages have also improved your understanding of the language. After all, when you write, you are more aware of the words that your thoughts carry. We may have created SMS lingo, but that is just acronyms and does not compromise understanding of the language.

People are connected even when a call is not allowed

Imagine a situation where you are in an important meeting and you are not allowed to answer your mobile phone. Now, even in such situations, there may be an urgency that needs to be conveyed to you. If people can’t call you, how will news of the urgency get to you? The SMS or short message service is the answer to this problem.

Also, there are no clear rules that do not allow you to accept a text. You can quickly read the message, analyze the urgency of the situation, and proceed accordingly.

Networking is easier

It is a daunting task to call people and network. However, sending SMS can make this challenge quite simple. You can broadcast the message to multiple groups at the same time and also pre-schedule the message time. This way, you stay connected to people without having to spend hours calling each and every one of them. Incredible, isn’t it?
