While the Asus K60I-RBBBR05 still retains the same old corporate black laptop look that’s now standard for most laptops, it has a slimmer profile than other 16-inch display laptops. In terms of design, it looks clean with straight lines and a nice pattern on the top cover. Solidly built, the chassis is quite sturdy despite the slim profile and offers a full keyboard including a numeric keypad. This is good for number-crunchers, but a bit bad for gamers, as the arrow keys have been shifted down a bit as a result.

The keyboard keys are island-style or raised chiclet-style, making for a comfortable typing experience. While the keyboard is generally comfortable to use with plenty of space, the placement means that typists take some getting used to. Fortunately, the small touchpad doesn’t get in the way and makes the most of it by also offering multi-resistant options.

Powered by a 2.2GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core T4400 processor, the Asus K60I-RBBBR05 uses slightly older technology with integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics. This does not mean that it is not powerful enough for work, since it can handle all office applications, Internet browsing, email and casual games. It is also probably the main reason for the better price. However, this does mean that there is a little extra to memory and storage which allows the Asus K60I-RBBBR05 to have 4 GB of DDR2 memory and a 500 GB HDD. It also comes with a standard DVD burner so you can watch DVDs and archive disc media.

It’s not all old technology, as the Asus K60I-RBBBR05 runs on Windows 7 Home Premium and wireless N wi-fi connectivity. The extra space also means the laptop can include four USB 2.0 ports, a VGA port, and a memory card reader. At 5.9 pounds, it weighs slightly more than a 15.6-inch laptop, and with the slim design it’s fairly easy to carry in your arms. While it only uses a six cell battery, it still offers great mobility with a battery life of three hours and 25 minutes.

Overall, the Asus K60I-RBBBR05 is a larger-than-average standard laptop, combining the best features and performance of a desktop replacement unit with the portability of a smaller laptop. Combined with its sub-$500 price point, you get a large yet lightweight laptop perfect for the mainstream user.
