Ever since I was old enough to throw a line in the water, I loved fishing for noble carp. Don’t ask me why, but I find these fish to be quite an attractive species to stalk. Carp are known to be social and friendly, with a tendency to gather in groups. Ideal for an avid carp angler like me! However, if larger specimens are what you’re after, they tend to be solitary fish that prefer deeper water with plenty of overgrowth and weeds. Because these places present enough of a challenge, I need my carp fishing gear to be top-notch. Here is information on one of my favorite rods: the Century FBS 12′ Carp Rod.

Key Features of the Century FBS 12′ Carp Rod

This is a new bar design that is manufactured using the latest in multi-gimbal dolly processes. Once the bar blanks are done, the actual seat is added, which is Fuji DPS. The FBS rod has high quality cork grips. The guides are precisely attached and spaced by skilled craftsmen, who manually wrap and glue them into place. A special coating is then applied to protect the casings from both slippage and corrosion. During the manufacturing process, the rod is autoclaved. Autoclaving is a process that uses high pressure steam treatment at temperatures of 121ºC (250ºF). Autoclaving gives the bar superior resistance to test curve deterioration and greatly increases its shelf life.

More information about the FBS carp rod

The Century FBS 12′ Carp Rod comes in two sections and is more than capable of casting many types of baits and lures surprisingly long distances. The rod action has a great parabolic curve, but it recovers quickly. Action and recovery combine to provide incredible control, so you’re less likely to miss a fish. The FBS has an attractive MPS ColourMatic® finish that ranges from a tan brown to a matte green. ColourMatic®, by the way, is an automated method of applying powdered colorants to white. The ColourMatic® process ensures long-lasting, vibrant colour.

Final Thoughts on the Century FBS 12′ Carp Rod

I found this FBS 12′ rod to have a complex yet highly functional design that is sure to appeal to many carp anglers, due to its weight, profile, and action. If you choose this rod, know that it works best over short to medium distances, up to a maximum of 140 meters on its 3.5lb test curve. The Century FBS also gives me excellent control when the fish is running and gives me a lot of confidence when I’m up close with fighting carp. Beneath the actual seat, you’ll find a unique carbon twill that’s designed to resist twisting. I’m happy to report that the handle also does a great job of resisting twisting. The rod has an engraved stainless steel collar and cap.

The Century FBS 12′ rod has been a great addition to my carp fishing tackle collection. My ranking? 4.5 out of 5 possible stars.
